With three days left until WIT 2013, we bet you’re wondering where you go for the morning event! Here’s the scoop:
We’re meeting at the IMS Media Center at 8 a.m. sharp! Don’t be late… you don’t want to miss a minute of the epic activities we have planned! Here are the parking directions:
Enter via Gate 2 from 16th St. through the tunnel. Turn left at the guard shack. Follow the curve around until you are even with the Pagoda. When you are even with the Pagoda, turn left on 6th St. Turn right on Old Myer. Turn left into the gravel parking lot.
VERY IMPORTANT NOTE: You MUST bring your Eventbrite ticket for the morning event to gain access to the media center parking lot. If you do not have your ticket, you’ll be directed to the IMS Museum parking lot, which means you have a LONG way to walk. Say it with us… “REMEMBER YOUR TICKET.”
ANOTHER VERY IMPORTANT NOTE: You MUST bring your drivers license. It will accompany the liability waiver for the track laps. Say it with us… “REMEMBER YOUR LICENSE.”
Can we get a drumroll up in here?
We’re excited to present to you… the Official 2013 Winter Indy Tweetup schedule!
If you’re wondering what’s on the agenda, our reply is, “What’s NOT on the agenda?!” We’ve taken the proven formula of a one-day, action-packed schedule that starts at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway, heads to the all-new Dallara Factory, splits the day with the popular karting tourney at Fast Times Indoor Karting and ends with a prize-filled “Main Event” party at Detour!
Basically, if you liked last year’s Winter Indy Tweetup, you’re in for a rockin’ good time this year because we’ve taken that plan and ENHANCED THE CRAP OUT OF IT. Think of it as WIT with lots of extra horsepower. We’ve turbo-ized it. Last year was good. This year will be EPIC.
Here’s the key: Make sure to sign up early! The events will sell out and those tickets will be your access to all the fun, prizes and… drivers. Yep. That’s all we can say right now. What are you waiting for? Go get registered!
It happens every year about this time.
IndyCar fans all across the country start experiencing this feeling of emptiness… of sadness… like something is missing. It goes by different names, but this year we call it the #FontanaHangover.
The only known cure is the ability to have something to look forward to. Something that allows you to wake up every morning and dream of an epic adventure in a world where everything travels at 200+ mph.
Look no further. We’re excited and proud to present to you the FOURTH ANNUAL WINTER INDY TWEETUP! Mark your calendars for Saturday, February 23, 2013 and watch this site for updates in the upcoming months! We’ll give you the complete Saturday schedule and any updates that we hear about Friday night or Sunday morning events that weekend.
Thanks to everyone who made the first three WITs awesome and we look forward to seeing everybody in February!
We love it when a plan comes together. Even if we’re running around like crazy people in just the past few weeks to get said plan to come together…still, we love it.
Despite many challenges, and thanks to our friends at INDYCAR, Detour Grille, several race teams, and beyond, we’re proud to present the full Winter Indy Tweetup 2012 schedule!
- 9:00am-12:00pm – Morning INDYCAR Event As WIT diehards know, we like to kickoff our tweetups with an awesome experience at the Racing Capital of the World. If you were one of the first people to RSVP “I’ll Be There!”, you received an email about how to register for our limited number of tickets to this awesome experience. If you didn’t get a chance to register, we’ll open it up to IndyCar Nation members on Monday, February 20, and then to the general public after that, so stay tuned!
- 2:00-4:00pm – WIT 2012 Karting Event Fastimes Indoor Karting, 3455 Harper Rd., Indianapolis, IN, 46240 Whether you come to race or come to watch the action, the WIT karting event has always been an INDYCAR fan favorite. We’ve got a great group of WIT diehards and newcomers signed up to drive and, as always, we’re working on prizes and suprises along the way. Missed the signup? Driving in tiny vehicles not really your thing? No problem! Come on by anyway to watch the action and mingle with some awesome tweeps.
- 7:00-10:00pm – Party at Detour! Detour: An American Grille, 110 W. Main St., Carmel, IN, 46032 We’ve got swag. Lots of swag. And awesome INDYCAR prizes. Even some car parts. And they all need a good home with WIT tweeps. Come on over to Detour, one of Carmel’s hottest restaurants, for a chance to hang out, get a bite to eat, and maybe win some of the prizes we’ve been stockpiling just for you. Enjoy the casual, fun atmosphere at Detour, with live music beginning at 9pm. Tell the hostess you’re with the Winter Indy Tweetup when you get there!
See you in ONE WEEK!!!
We’re not going to make any excuses. We’re going to tell it like it is. Straight forward with a shot of ethanol as the chaser.
WIT has grown above and beyond what we ever thought it would back when we started planning our very first tweetup in 2009. We’ve been through a lot of ups and even a few downs, all in the name of providing unforgettable INDYCAR fan experiences. We’ve met so many great people that each tweetup is kinda like a family reunion. Each time, we dream bigger and bigger, trying to create an event even more amazing than the last…it’s just that, this year, life came by and smacked us in the face.
Not to toot our own horns or anything, but MAN, did we have some great ideas this year. But when you combine some rather unique, unexpected planning challenges with the warp speed happenings of the rest of our lives (didja hear we were both in a certain WIT-related wedding in October?), we started to think about the humble beginnings of WIT.
WIT 2009: we didn’t have a website, we didn’t even have @WinterIndyTwtup, we just had a little weekend plan…and a LOT of fun.
While we are really pretty upset that this year’s WIT isn’t going to be on the grandiose scale of what we’d originally planned, we thought: maybe WIT is best going back to its grassroots feel. See, just because we aren’t having the big, fancy kickoff party doesn’t mean that we don’t have a whole buncha cool prizes to give away. And, come on, we don’t want to be DIMWITs either! (DIMWIT = “Damn, I Missed Winter Indy Tweetup”)
Does that mean there isn’t a place for the epic ideas we’ve got spinning around in our brains? Hell no. We’re constantly formulating plans and ideas on how to take social media + INDYCAR + an awesome fan base + thousands of potential new fans to unprecedented levels. And YOU’LL be in the front row when it all goes down.
For instance, you may or may not know that we each started a business – @happyfish103 started Maraschino Events (event planning) and @the_race_gIRL started 242MPH (motorsports marketing & PR). And we’re lucky enough to be officially collaborating on a special event for a great cause – Racing For Cancer’s big annual Indy 500 fundraiser (known last year as the #BeatCancer Bash), with a lineup even bigger and better this time around.
So, finally, about WIT 3.0: we’re leaving it up to you… if you’re still interested in attending a one-day event on Saturday, February 25, 2012, to have fun and socialize, leave a comment below or tweet to us at @WinterIndyTwtup. If there’s enough interest, we’ll fill the day with some fun activities.
Thank you for sticking with us for the past two years, and for understanding our new goals and the ever-changing life of “freelance” INDYCAR tweetup planners.
So… February 25. ARE YOU IN?
It’s a special moment when someone you care about says those three magical words: Winter Indy Tweetup. Just hearing it is enough to invoke heart-warming memories of the basement at IMS, karting with friends, meeting drivers, getting free IndyCar swag… the list goes on and on.
You may have convinced yourself that WIT couldn’t possibly get any better. As always, we’re here to one-up ourselves and make this year’s event even better! To that end, we’re trying something a little different this year and, quite frankly, we’re like two schoolgirls in a candy store.
What? That’s not how the saying goes? Who cares – we love candy. Not as much as we love IndyCar, so let’s stay focused.
So far, WIT has been about getting IndyCar fans together to celebrate the past season. This year, it’s going to be about getting fans together (both new AND diehard!) to celebrate and chat about the upcoming season. 2012 will mark the beginning of a new era and we’ll settle for nothing less than kicking it off in style. Here’s what you need to know:
Winter Indy Tweetup
February 24-26, 2012
Indianapolis – The Racing Capital of the World
As usual, we can’t give away the surprises, but we can tell you to expect a few of the old favorites with a whole lotta new, cool features. We’re working with our friends from IndyCar, some new sponsors and the hottest locations in Indy to make WIT 3.0 better than your wildest dreams.
Are you excited? We can’t hear you. ARE YOU EXCITED? If so, leave a comment below. Also, we’re still open to ideas so feel free to make suggestions if there’s something you’d like to see at WIT. Mark your calendars – there’s NO WAY you should miss this.
The list of WIT thank you’s is long, but very important! *deep breath* Here goes!
First of all, a big thank you goes out to all of the attendees for making it great! Whether you attended all 5 events or could just make it to one, we hope you had fun!
We’d LOVE to hear any comments and ideas on what you thought about WIT, and what you’d like to see at tweetups in the future! May Indy Tweetup will be our next adventure, and we’re already working on some ideas! (Go to www.mayindytweetup.com for all of the details.)
Also, thank you to the self-proclaimed DIMWITs (Damn, I Missed Winter Indy Tweetup) who still helped to spread the word for us. We missed you!
Please make sure to support each of these people and organizations who have supported us!
For providing us with great venues for the Welcome Party and Main Event party, we’d like to thank McGilvery’s Pub & Eatery, Fastimes Indoor Karting, Charlie Brown’s Pancake and Steakhouse, and the Broad Ripple Tavern . The staff was so friendly and the spaces were more than we could’ve hoped for!
Also to the Hampton Inn Northwest, who provided a great group rate and was extremely accommodating and helpful to meeting the needs of our little event.
For generously donating their time, searching their shops for the aforementioned AMAZING giveaways, mentions and promos, we’d like to thank:
- FAZZT Race Team
- Sarah Fisher Racing
- Panther Racing
- Andretti Autosport

We truly value and appreciate your involvement!
Also to our special guest appearances by Martin Plowman , Ed Carpenter , Stefan Wilson , Philip Majors , James Hinchcliffe , and Alex Tagliani . We were thrilled to have each of you there, and everyone there really took notice and appreciated the fact that you all took the time (and drove through the snow!) to interact with them. Thank you!
More mad props to Don Kay of Autosport Radio for helping us out with the Welcome Party, Donald Davidson for hosting our trivia contest, and the IMS Museum staff for being so accommodating to help us out on our Saturday morning event.
A special thank you to the lovely Pat Caporali of FAZZT Race Team. You all know Pat as (among other things!) The One Who Started IndyCar Tweetups. We are proud to carry that torch, and so thankful for all of her pictures, tweets, help in planning, and keeping everyone in line for WIT this year!
And of course a huge thank you to our sponsor, Fanimation, for making the Fanimation Grand Prix at Fastimes Indoor Karting possible! We’re so excited for the response we’ve gotten by fans and drivers alike through our partnership with Fastimes during both WIT and MIT, and hope that we can continue to grow that relationship in the future.
Last, but certainly not least, the IZOD IndyCar staff who has worked with us and helped us out on so much, not only for WIT 2010, but for all of our past tweetups as well. We couldn’t have done it without them, and really look forward to coming up with new and exciting possibilities in the future! Thanks to Randy Bernard, who has supported our efforts and even made a welcome video for the Friday night party. We really appreciate your involvement!
A special holla goes out to Daniel Incandela, the Director of Online Media at the IMS, who has worked with us through thick and thin for nearly a year now to help make the Tweetups what they are today.
We are so incredibly grateful to every single person who has helped make these Tweetups such fun events for all involved. Every piece of the puzzle fit perfectly to make WIT2.0 an unforgettable event. We’ve been feeling the love from everyone who wanted to help us make this event so epic, and it just goes to show how truly unique IndyCar is in fan interaction!
